for Women in Miami & Across Florida

Anxiety Counseling

You may carry a quiet weight: constant overthinking, internal pressure, and the feeling that your mind never fully rests.

We offer a thoughtful, mind-body approach to anxiety therapy that helps you calm your nervous system and understand what underlying health issues might be contributing to your anxiety, allowing you to finally feel a sense of clarity, ease and calm.

Finally Feel Calm

With anxiety, there is often more going on below the surface. Many times there might be hormonal factors contributing to your anxiety or nutritional deficincies. Together, we explore the patterns that drive your anxiety and focus on finding any root causes. Using practical, evidence-based tools, I help you notice thought patterns, calm your nervous system and build real and long lasting change for your anxiety.

A Mind-Body Approach to Anxiety

If you’re burned out, overwhelmed, and running on empty, you don’t have to carry it alone. Support can help you feel more like yourself again.

No two experiences of anxiety are the same. In our sessions, I focus on your patterns (how your thoughts, body, and daily life are affected), and work with you to create tools and strategies that fit your unique rhythm. Together, we build support that actually works for you, not a generic plan.

and so is my support

My unique approach marries psychotherapy tools with a deep understanding for the role our physical health and bodies contribute to anxiety. Answers to Your Questions

Nervous system regulation refers to helping the body move out of chronic stress responses and return to a calmer, more balanced state. When the nervous system is regulated, it becomes easier to think clearly, manage emotions, and respond to stress in healthier ways. Being able to return to a calm, relaxed nervous system is key to mental and physical well-being. Our bodies are very connected to our mental health.

What is nervous system regulation, and why does it matter for anxiety?

13

Yes. Somatic therapy for anxiety focuses on how stress and emotions are stored in the body. By learning to notice and regulate physical sensations associated with anxiety, many people experience greater calm and emotional balance.

Can somatic therapy help with anxiety?

12

High-functioning anxiety describes individuals who appear successful and capable on the outside but internally struggle with chronic worry, overthinking, and stress. Many women with high-functioning anxiety continue to meet responsibilities while feeling mentally exhausted or overwhelmed.

Anxiety and stress activate the body’s fight-or-flight response, which can create physical symptoms such as chest tightness, fatigue, headaches, muscle tension, or digestive discomfort.

Many women experiencing high-functioning anxiety notice that their bodies remain in a constant state of stress. Stress and anxiety are in a feedback loop, each impacting the other. Stress then impacts all systems within the body, including hormones, thyroid health, and gut health, which in turn impacts anxiety. Through therapy that includes mind-body anxiety relief and nervous system regulation, we work to help the body return to a more balanced and regulated state.

Why does my anxiety feel so physical (like chest tightness or fatigue)?

09

The length of anxiety therapy depends on your goals and the complexity of what you are experiencing. Some women notice meaningful improvement within a few months, while others continue therapy longer to support deeper personal growth and long-term emotional wellbeing.

The goal of therapy is not just symptom relief, but helping you build lasting resilience, nervous system regulation, physical health, and confidence in navigating life’s challenges.

How long does anxiety therapy typically take?

08

Yes. The Heard Counseling specializes in therapy and counseling services for women in Miami who are navigating anxiety, stress, and life transitions. This focus allows us to provide care that understands the unique physiology, think perimenopause or PCOS, many women experience while balancing careers, relationships, and personal wellbeing.

Does The Heard only work with women?

07

The Heard Counseling provides therapy and counseling services, not psychiatric medication management. If medication may be helpful as part of your anxiety treatment, we can collaborate with your primary care physician or psychiatrist to support coordinated care.

Do you provide medicine for anxiety?

Dr. April Brown provides anxiety therapy for women in Miami and Coral Gables who feel overwhelmed, mentally exhausted, or caught in cycles of overthinking. Her work often focuses on women experiencing high-functioning anxiety, anxiety and burnout, or stress related to major life transitions.

Through therapy, you will work together to understand the deeper patterns contributing to anxiety while building tools that support emotional steadiness and nervous system regulation. Many clients begin to feel more energized, clear-headed, and confident in their ability to manage stress and life demands.

Dr. April Brown brings a unique approach to supporting your anxiety that also focuses on the root cause of anxiety, psychoeducating you on what other aspects of life can contribute to and cause anxiety. This includes learning about how sleep, nutrition, movement, hormones, and gut health all contribute to anxiety.

How can Dr. April Brown help me with my anxiety?

05

Traditional talk therapy typically focuses on thoughts, emotions, and behavior patterns. A holistic or integrative therapy approach for anxiety also considers how stress lives in the body and nervous system.

At The Heard Counseling, therapy may incorporate elements of somatic therapy for anxiety and nervous system regulation alongside insight-based conversations. This helps women who feel stuck in overthinking or who experience physical anxiety symptoms learn how to regulate their bodies, process emotions, and create lasting change.

We also focus on psychoeducation around other aspects of our lives that impact our anxiety, such as nutrition, movement or lack of movement, nutrient deficiencies, and hormonal imbalances. We see the mind and body as one, and so we believe you cannot ignore the physical aspects of our health that impact our mental health.

What is the difference between traditional talk therapy and a holistic, mind-body approach?

04

Effective anxiety treatment addresses both the mental patterns and the body’s stress response. In therapy, we focus on understanding the root causes of anxiety while also developing tools that help calm the nervous system.

This may include building emotional awareness, improving boundaries, and learning ways to regulate stress. Through holistic anxiety treatment and mind-body anxiety relief, many women begin to feel calmer, more focused, and more confident in how they navigate their lives.

What will help my anxiety?

03

Anxiety can show up in many different ways. Some women experience constant overthinking, racing thoughts, difficulty relaxing, or feeling on edge, even when things seem fine on the outside. Others experience more physical symptoms such as fatigue, muscle tension, headaches, or digestive discomfort.

Many of the women who seek anxiety therapy describe feeling mentally exhausted from trying to manage everything while quietly struggling with stress or worry. Therapy can help you understand what is happening beneath the surface and develop healthier ways to respond.

How do I know if I have anxiety?

02

Yes. In addition to offering anxiety therapy for women in Miami, The Heard Counseling also provides online counseling for anxiety and virtual therapy for women throughout Florida. Virtual sessions allow you to receive consistent support from the comfort of your home while maintaining privacy and flexibility. Many women find that online anxiety therapy is just as effective as in-person counseling and fits more easily into busy schedules.
