Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

April Brown, MS is a licensed marriage and family therapist with advanced training in mental health related to relationships, pregnancy, parenting and postpartum.

Hi! Thank you for being here!

I am so glad you found this small space on the internet. I am April Brown, licensed marriage and family therapist, located in Miami, Florida.

I love working with blended, multicultural families, or families that have roots in another country.

I originally was born in England + am the eldest daughter in a multicultural, multi-religion, blended family.

Many of my clients have relationships in their lives that are strained. It could be a parent worried about their teenager.

A couple struggling to connect after a child, or a young Dad unsure of how to bond with his child.

I often work with clients struggling with anxiety. I too have struggled with anxiety myself, and know the power of therapy.

Being a new Mom and Dad can be so challenging. I work with parents whom are pregnant, postpartum or going through infertility challenges as I too, struggled during that time.

Please reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to set up a Free 20 minute chat.

Are we the Right Therapist for You?

Finding the right therapist in South Florida can be hard, right? It shouldn’t be like this, it should be easy. Yet, at times, it can be time-consuming, overwhelming and disheartening to have to navigate through many counseling websites and therapy directory profiles.

I hope this process can be different for you; I hope you can come away from the therapeutic experience feeling heard, like it was a positive experience and successful- however you define success.

I feel the one of the most important aspects of therapy is to feel safe and comfortable with your therapist. Therapy can be a vulnerable place, so finding a place that makes your feel comfortable can make all the difference.

We strive to ensure that you feel listened to and understood. We couple that with our extensive expertise and and years of psychological training. My scientific background in Neuroscience paired with my clinical training in marriage and family therapy offers you a unique approach to therapy- one with a neurological and therapeutic basing.

We have offices close to Coral Gables, FL, Miami Beach, FL, Design District in Miami, Key Biscayne, FL, Brickell Miami, Fl, Edgewater in Miami, Morningside in Miami, Midtown Miami and Coconut Grove, FL

What to Expect in Therapy

It takes so much courage to be here, to seek the support you need and deserve. During this process, I strive to honor that you are the expert of your own experience, offer a non-judgemental ear and be there for you as you commit to change. You are not alone!

My approach is systemic, meaning, together we look at the full picture. Together we will think about how your struggles are impacting others, how others are impacting you and create solutions that work for everyone in your family. I hope to work with you collaboratively to co-construct meaningful therapeutic goals.

Through conversation together we are able to learn about your unique values, what is important to you, your hopes, dreams and beliefs and use your innate skills to decrease the power your problem has in your life.

At times we might think that our problem lives inside of us and defines us, “I have anxiety, I am depressed.” But, together we will explore how your problem is not a reflection of who you really are.

We will also explore the messages we receive in society about what it means to be a woman, a parent, a wife, a husband and how that impacts our views of ourselves so much. Your better life is waiting for you! We are here to help!

It Can be Hard to Start Therapy..

There can be a lot of stigma with seeking help and going to therapy. I think it comes from the idea that we must be able to fix our own problems. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I am trained to believe that you hold the answers to your own problems, we as therapists just facilitate that search and change. We find that this idea can be empowering to our clients.

We don’t view ourselves as experts who tell you what to do. We believe that we work together to hear what is going on in your life, see what has been done before and what might be done differently to help your change. If you learn this process of searching inside yourself to find the answers, it can be not only empowering but better for you in life when another problem arises.

I feel a sense of honor and privilege to be apart of the many stories that my client’s share with me. It take great strength and trust to share these stories with me and I do not take that for granted. I have seen the power support and hope can have in people’s lives and I hope to be able to offer that to you too!
