3 Reasons You Should Consider Therapy for Moms

A mom walks with her baby after her counseling session with April Brown, LMFT who works with Moms in Miami offering therapy for Moms, marriage counseling in Miami, therapy for teens, counseling for miscarriage and therapy for birth trauma.

Being a mom is a full-time job, and likely isn’t the only full-time job you have!  In addition to being a mom, you take care of the house, manage schedules, cook, clean, and you may work another job outside of the house too! I know I’m forgetting probably one million responsibilities you have as a mother, but the point is still the same - you do everything and take care of everyone! But do you take care of yourself? What do you do for your own self-care?

Oftentimes, people think that therapy or counseling is only helpful if there is something “wrong”.  And, while it is helpful if something is “wrong”, it can also be helpful just to have someplace to go where you can focus on yourself for 45 minutes to one hour! So, if you are a mom and you are on top of everything, or if you are a mom feeling like you are becoming increasingly overwhelmed - here are 3 reasons why therapy for moms may be helpful for you!

One Reason Therapy for Moms Can Help: A Safe Place to Vent…

At home, you have to be the person that keeps track of everything.  You are the person that runs the household, and you are a total superhero! But even superheroes get frustrated, and when you get frustrated, who do you vent to?  It may seem like your life revolves around the little people in your life - and there isn’t really anyone that you can talk and vent to and be your authentic self - whatever that looks like! Well, therapy (specifically, therapy for moms) can be incredibly helpful if you feel like you are in this position! Therapy allows you to have a safe place to go for about 1 hour and talk about whatever you feel like you need to or want to talk about. At home, you may find yourself not able to have any time to yourself - well, therapy for moms provides you with an entire uninterrupted hour specifically for addressing you and your needs.

One Reason Therapy for Moms Can Help: Self-Care is Important…

You may hear people talk about “self-care” a lot! For some people, it looks like sticking to an exercise routine, for others it may look like attending a yoga class a few times per week - or maybe to others, it means enjoying spending time reading a good book with some peace and quiet.  However, as a mom - this can be nearly impossible! It’s hard enough to find time to do all of the things you NEED to do; let alone the things you WANT to do for yourself.  But, self-care is so important because it allows you to recharge your battery and continue to be happy and healthy for not only the other people in your life, but for yourself as well! Believe it or not, therapy or counseling is actually an excellent means of engaging in self-care! It can be really hard to stick to an exercise routine or find time to read a good book.  However, committing to therapy, whether it be therapy for moms or couples therapy, gives you accountability, and is a great way to take care of yourself.  Yet another reason why therapy for moms is so important and helpful!

One Reason Therapy for Moms Can Help: You Deserve It!...

Let’s face it, being a mom is not easy! It can bring you endless amounts of joy, but it is also one of the most difficult things you will ever do! There’s no shame in that at all, in fact, many moms struggle with feelings of anxiety, depression, and being overwhelmed. Maybe you are feeling any combination of these emotions, maybe you aren’t - either way, you deserve to have someone outside of your family, just to talk to! You deserve an ally, a shoulder to cry on, a place to get your concerns and worries off your chest. Therapy for moms is a great way to vent, engage in self-care and ultimately - you deserve to have that! You work so hard in all that you do, it can’t hurt to allow someone to share this journey with you and take some of the stress off your plate!
