Online Therapy for Moms in Miami and Florida
Are you experiencing overwhelm and burnout as a Mom?
Being a mother can be exhausting. Finding a few minutes to yourself during the day can feel like a treat. You love your children, but the constant demands wear you out. Perhaps, you feel like you have lost your sense of self, who you were before you had children. Now, you’re struggling to see a way out of the fog you’re living in.
You often compare yourself to other moms. You compare parenting styles, children, homes, and physical appearance. It never ends. You want perfection. But, when you don’t achieve it, you feel depleted and overwhelmed. Especially because you constantly try to do your best in all areas of your life. Furthermore, it feels impossible to care for your physical appearance or home while you have to keep your children alive and thriving.
Perhaps, you have in-law issues. Maybe they’re helpful. Or, perhaps they lack boundaries. This impacts your relationship with your partner. Especially, because you feel like you constantly have to explain why their behavior is inappropriate. You appreciate their support and help when they offer it, but their constant critiquing and comments are too much. You’re already dealing with so much, you don’t want to deal with them too.
You long for change and happiness.
You want things to be different. Sometimes you find yourself losing your temper and getting angry at your children or your partner. You don’t want to, but you’re mentally depleted and have no patience. After getting angry you feel guilty. You need extra help, you really need to start somewhere but you don’t know what to do.

Mom, You are Not Alone…
Motherhood can be so isolating, especially now. You can hardly hold your life together. Perhaps, you see other moms in the drop-off line at school, or at the park and think, they seem to be doing everything right, what is wrong with me?”
There is nothing wrong with you. Every mom and parent goes through immense challenges and struggles. Being a mother means everything is constantly changing and you have to adapt quickly. Just when you think you have mastered one development milestone and found things that work, your child changes and you have to start over from square one.
It’s okay to ask for help when you need it.
There is this societal belief that mothers should not ask for help. It’s even looked at as a sign of weakness when you can’t do everything. But, moms can’t do everything. You can’t be everything to everyone. You are just one person.
Therapy might not be what you thought you needed. But, talking to someone outside of your family and friends can be very helpful. A therapist can listen and help you come up with real solutions to take care of yourself and your mental health. You don’t need to be at your breaking point for therapy to be helpful. Don’t wait until you’re on your last straw before you realize that you need extra support.
As online therapists in Florida, we are here to offer support. Every mother needs someone to lean on.
SIGNS OF MOM BURNOUT
We hear about burnout a lot, many times in references to the corporate work or health care providers. As Moms, we too can feel the effects of being overworked and taken advantage of. These are some of the signs that you might be experiencing burnout:
It feels like you can’t do this anymore
You withdraw from people and want to be alone
You have little energy, but it’s hard to sleep
It feels like there is no hope
You really need a break
You have less patience and are often irritable
When you wake up you’re exhausted before the day has even begun
You’re angry or resentful towards others
You zone out or have trouble focusing and completing tasks
You feel guilty about having these emotions
Being a Mom During the COVID-19 Pandemic
The Coronavirus pandemic has been hard on everyone. However, it’s been especially hard on mothers. We have had to make sacrifices and compromises. Moms were asked to make hard decisions for our family. Because of this we often forget to ask what is best for ourselves.
The pandemic has left a lot of us moms exhausted and burnt out. We often don’t know who to reach out to for help. Furthermore, we assume it’s not okay to ask for support because everyone is struggling or other people are struggling more than you are.
As moms and therapists, we are here for you if you don’t know who to turn to. We want things to be different and easier for you. We offer free 20 minute chats to get to know each other. Then, you can determine if we’re a good fit to work together in counseling.
Therapy for Moms Can Help
Counseling can be an effective way of helping you better manage the challenges of motherhood. We have helped many Moms, using a collaborative approach. This means we involve them in the therapy process. This helps them achieve their goal of being calmer, more clear-minded, and more truly present with your children.
We use research-based, evidence-based approaches and techniques with our clients to help them gain the relief that they need. Often in the first session, if you are describing anxious symptoms, we will collaboratively discuss tools and resources that will help you alleviate anxiety. It often helps clients know that there are things they can do to help feel in control of their symptoms.
Our Approach to Counseling for Moms
As Moms, there is a hierarchy of needs we need to be aware of. The first need that should be met is physiological. This includes proper nutrition and sleep. After that, we can address can needs of safety, which include, health, employment, and other resources. After is love and belonging. This includes your relationships, sense of belonging and friendships. It also includes respect, self-esteem, status, recognition, and freedom. Finally, we address self-actualization. This is where you work to be the best you can be. When our basic needs are not being met, then we can barely focus on the previous ones.
Moms face pressure to meet everyone else’s needs before taking care of their own. Furthermore, some needs take precedence over others. For example, your physiological needs like food and sleep come first, then you have to address needs of safety. This includes things like your healthy, employment, and access to resources. After that, you can think about your need to feel loved. This includes nurturing your relationship and friendship. It also includes your self-esteem, status, recognition, and freedom. Then, once all of those things have been addressed, you can think about your self-actualization needs. This includes doing things (like counseling) that help you be the best person you can be.
Unfortunately, as moms, our needs get muddled and we often can’t even tell what we need. But, we know that something needs to be different.
Our Approach to Therapy for Moms in Miami
At The Heard Counseling, we offer you a clear, calm, space to work together to figure out what are your most imminent needs are. Then, we discuss how we can work together to ensure they are being met.
We have found that there are many different therapeutic approaches that can be helpful when working with moms. One is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT. In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, you learn to recognize thoughts that are causing you distress and anxiety. Then, we work on helping you understand how these thoughts are impacting you. This allows us to find ways to change those thought patterns. Many of these thought patterns do not have a grounding in reality, they are just not true.
We might also explore the different factors in your life that might be overwhelming you and how you respond to these stressors. Then, we will discuss ways to decrease your emotional response. Either way, you deserve the help you need. No one should have to suffer from anxiety forever.
What is Mom Rage?
Our society and the messages we receive from others make us feel like we constantly have to be doing something. This can cause the continued activation of the nervous system, leading to anxiety.
As a new mom, you might feel like you have to do it all. You have to recover quickly and get your “bodies back”. And, you have to be able to feed your baby or babies. You’re expected to breastfeed, find time to sleep and nurture your relationship. All while trying to keep your baby alive. It can feel like too much.
You might begin to have anxious thoughts about your baby. This leads to you checking to see if he or she is still breathing multiple times in the night, or worrying about everything they do or every noise they make. You might worry constantly that he/she might get sick or that something is wrong. You are not alone, many parents feel the same way. But, you don’t have to live with those feelings, working with an online therapist can help.

Birth Trauma
Your child’s birth was scary and traumatic. You can’t stop thinking about what happened or what could have happened in different circumstances. You constantly are trying to calm yourself down, but nothing seems to be working. You relive your child’s birth in your mind over and over again.

Postpartum Depression and Postpartum Anxiety
Research shows that 20-25 percent of mothers experience a perinatal mood disorder, like postpartum depression or postpartum anxiety, in the first year of their child’s life. After birth, many women experience huge emotional shifts, physiological changes, and extreme hormonal changes. Some people are just more sensitive to these hormonal shifts and it causes an array of painful and alarming symptoms. This leads to postpartum depression or postpartum anxiety. If you’re experiencing postpartum anxiety or depression, know you are not alone and it is not your fault.
Common Questions about Online Therapy for Moms in Miami:
Will my insurance cover my therapy?
Unfortunately, we do not take insurance at this time. There are a few reasons why we don’t. One of those reasons is we value your confidentiality. Often insurance requires that you provide your medical notes and records. These records can go through many different hands at the insurance company. Another is, in order to be covered by insurance you have to receive a psychiatric diagnosis, which at times does not always fit the clients we are seeing.
We understand if you would like to go through your insurance and happy to connect you with other practitioners who do accept insurance.
I am not sure if therapy is right for me.
We understand that the last thing you might not think you need therapy. Or, you might believe that you should be able to solve your own problems, so you shouldn’t need help.
No matter how you view therapy, what is important is that you take care of your mental health. You deserve things to be different. You deserve to be happy, less stressed, and less isolated. Taking care of yourself is so important. It is not only important for you but for your child, your family, and your partner. If you take care of yourself, then you can more present for the people you love.
